‘Surfing capital of the north’ is what La Uñion is best known for. The popular surfing venue here in Urbiztondo. Just along the MacArthur highway, you can either ride a bus or jeep on your way. To get to Urbiztondo, ride a jeep going to Plaza of San Fernando. From plaza, you’ll need to walk for 10mins to reach the public market where the jeepney transits are. Fare from public market to Urbiztondo is P12.

Once you get there, the first question we’ve had in mind is – where do we put our bags? If you’re not surfing, you may ask the lifeguard to place your things there. If you’re going to surf, you can ask the surf instructors if you could leave your things on their place which we did.

There are a lot of surfers (pro and beginners) and surf instructors of course! Schools are all over the place. You can just choose which one you want. We opt to get instructions from Sebay surfers. Surfing with instructor cost P400 for 1 hour. If you just want to rent a surfboard, it’ll cost P200. The surfing class includes a brief introduction about how to stand and balance on your surf board. After that, the real action begins. And it’s worth it, I totally enjoy it!

For more zen activity, you may try visiting Ma-Cho temple at San Fernando. From Bauang, you can either ride a bus or jeep. Jeep fare is P14. Drop off on San Fernando’s plaza and just walk straight towards the bus terminals where Partas is. 8 minutes walk from Partas and you’ll reach Ma Cho temple.

For pasalubong, you may also want to visit and even try picking grapes. There are a few farms just along MacArthur highway. Namely Lomboy Grapes farm, Calica Grapes farm, Gapuz grapes farm and Manguerra Grapes farm.
Manguerra grapes farm
To get there, ride any bus going to Manila or anywhere towards that direction. Just tell kuya konduktor to drop you off at your preferred grapes farm. The grapes farms are just 5-10 mins walk away from each other. If you’re coming from Bauang, fare is P14. Once we got there, you can rent a habal habal for a ride. There’s no fixed fare for them. Just give an amount you think would benefit them 😉
We’re supposed to go to Gapuz grapes farm, unfortunately, they have no harvest yet. So we transferred to Manguerra grapes farm which is only 3 minutes away. There’s no entrance fee but you have to pay P250 for picking grapes, that’s one kilo.
Manguerra grapes farm
It’s a vast field with a lot of green towering vines. They said that this can last for 15 years and it’ll took 6 months to grow a grape farm like this.

You could also buy some wine which cost P200 per bottle. And since I like sweet wine, we were directed to another farm which is Badere-Calica. Other than grapes wine, they also have guyabano, blueberries and yakun flavor. Support local!
